April/May 2018
We are working on fluency in our writing and third graders are also learning how to write an opinion essay. We are also working on challenging math word problems, solved in groups and explained to the class - how and why they got the answers they did.
We continue to study our individual math and language work along with writing for all students. As the students progress, they are expected to write in cursive and add more 'meat' to their sentence 'bones'. This is a great opportunity for students to use many adjectives and adverbs along with prepositional phrases. They really work hard at making their writing flow and take great pride when a teacher or friend can read it and actually know what it says and how they intend it to sound:) Sentence analysis (Subject/predicate/direct object/indirect objects/ with and without adjectives and adverbs) was introduced to seconds and thirds.
We are gearing up for our end of year pool party - thank you Janice for hosting and Erika for arranging!
Preview day for all new students will be on May 21st. Kindergarten children will visit our classroom from 9-10:30 and our third graders will go to their new E2 classrooms and stay for lunch. It's such a busy time of year but we are excited for the upcoming events.
Our third grade 'send off' will be the morning prior to the pool party. We will have a small gathering of well wishes and tears, then we will go to the party at 10. Parents are welcome to come that morning, especially if you're driving!
